Y2SiO5:Ce (YSO: Ce) or Cerium doped Silicate Yttrium is a bright and fast light scintillator with an emission peak at 420 nm. It is easy to match with PMT and SiPM readouts. YSO(Ce) has a similar decay time to LYSO(Ce) (50-70ns) but no background (Lutecium). Mechanical processing of YSO: Ce scintillators is easier compared to other silicates. YSO(Ce) is often made into a pixelated array and multi-layer arrays for nuclear medicine Positron Emission Tomography (PET) applications.
