Laser Crystals and Components
“Laser” is an acronym for “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation”, when the laser gain medium is pumped by an external energy source, it is excited and emits a light beam, and then the beam is reflected in the optical cavity to generate coherent laser light. The light emission is the result of the photons radiated through electronic or molecular transitions. The laser medium can be in the form of a solid, gas, liquid, or semi-conductor. Laser crystals are a kind of solid-state laser gain media. Laser crystals are often doped with various kinds of ions (often trivalent rare earth ions or transition metal ions), these ions facilitate the amplification of light at laser wavelengths. Common geometries of these crystals include cuboid, cylindrical, and thin disk. The shape of the crystal and the doping percentage have great influences on the output laser beam. Compared with laser glass materials, the merits of laser crystals are manifold, including higher transition cross-sections, a smaller absorption and emission bandwidth, better thermal properties, and possible birefringence.
Hangzhou Shalom EO offers a rich selection of laser crystals, including Nd: YAG, Nd: Ce: YAG, Nd: YVO4, CTH: YAG, Er: YAG, Yb: YAG, Ti: Sapphire, Alexandrite crystals and diffusion bonding crystals. Nd: YAG and Nd: YVO4 are popular crystals for 1064nm lasers, Nd: Ce: YAG, CTH: YAG, and Er: YAG crystals are often used in the medical and cosmetic lasers, Ti: Sapphire is for ultra-fast lasers, Alexandrite is for long-pulsed and picosecond 755nm lasers, diffusion bonding crystals are useful for OEM compact lasers.
