Optical Lenses are optical components that are transparent to certain light spectrums, oriented for either collecting or diverging lights. There are various forms of optical lenses, for instance, the lenses could be single bulk elements or consist of several pieces assembled together. Surfaces of optical lenses could be spherical (e.g. plano convex, plano concave, meniscus) or aspheric. The functions of optical lenses encompass laser processing, image magnification, fiber collimation, etc. and the applications of optical lenses are extensive, ranging from life science, and medical diagnoses, to defense and industrial production.

Plano-convex (PCX) and Biconvex lenses have positive focal lengths and focus light to a point, whilst Plano-concave and Biconcave lenses are designed to diverge light according to a virtual focal point. Cylindrical lenses process light in linear dimensions. The predominant function of ball and half ball lenses is light collimation/coupling for optical fibers. Achromatic lenses correct chromatic aberrations, and aspheric lenses could avoid spherical aberrations which are intrinsic in all spherical lenses. The substrate materials include N-BK7, UV Fused Silica, Flint Glass, Sapphire, while for Infrared wavelengths Germanium (Ge), Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) and Silicon (Si), etc. are also available.
