Thallium doped cesium iodide (or CsI(Tl)) is one of the brightest scintillators with the fluorescence spectrum with maximum at 550nm, which allows using photodiodes for detection of the emission. Because a scintillator-photodiode pair can be used, it is possible to reduce significantly the size of the detection system, to do without a high-voltage power supply, and to use the detection system in magnetic fields. CsI(Tl) has a high effective atomic number and consequently larger cross-section of the gamma-radiation photoabsorption.
CsI(Tl) has very good stopping power, is slightly hygroscopic and with good plastic mechanical properties. Combined with a relatively good radiation hardness properties, CsI(Tl) is also well suited for High Energy Physics. It is used in Phoswiches for whole body counting and X-ray astronomy as the "guard crystal" with typically a thin NaI(Tl) as the primary detector. Depending on growth conditions CsI(Tl) crystals can be obtained with low afterglow for application in tomographic systems.
Hangzhou Shalom EO provide the one dimension or 2 dimension CsI(Tl) pixellated arrays which are used in the X-Ray scanning systems for medical and security applications. The PD can be also assemblied with CsI(Tl) array if it is required.
