Single Crystal PMN-PT, also called PMNT Crystal, is an abbreviated name for Lead Magnesium Niobate-Lead Titanate, the chemical formula for PMN-PT crystal is Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3, the crystal has a perovskite crystal structure. PMN-PT crystals are a class of piezoelectric crystal materials that stand out due to their combined advantages of very high piezoelectric constants, large electromechanical coupling coefficients, substantial dielectric constants, and low loss. 

The most distinct feature that makes PMT-PT revolutionize the piezo material industry is that it exhibits a phenomenal magnitude of piezoelectric effects. The PMN-PT crystals are a novel kind of relaxor-based ferroelectric single crystals that have the highest piezoelectric sensitivities and piezoelectric constants among the piezo materials discovered so far, which means PMN-PT crystals can detect even very small mechanical stresses or vibrations and convert them into measurable electrical signals, making them ideal for high-precision sensing applications, or vice versa, PMN-PT can produce significant mechanical deformation in response to an applied electric field, allowing for powerful and precise actuation capabilities. Compared with PZT ceramics and conventional piezoceramics, the electromechanical coefficients k33 of PMN-PT are much higher, and the piezoelectric efficiencies of PMN PT are also several orders of magnitudes greater than that of piezoceramics, contributing to the strong and efficient coupling between electrical and mechanical responses in applications like ultrasonic transducers, actuators, and sensors.  

There are also other merits of PMN-PT crystals. First, PMN-PT crystals have an excellent bandwidth, which implies the crystals are capable of responding to a wider range of frequencies, enabling the output of high-resolution images or signals in medical imaging, material inspection, and industrial non-destructive testing. Second, PMN-PT has a rather high Curie temperature, allowing it to operate over a broad range of temperatures. Third, The piezoelectric properties of PMN-PT crystals can be tuned by adjusting the ratio of PMN to PT, allowing optimization for specific applications. PIN-PMN-PT (Lead Indium Niobate-lead Magnesium Niobate-lead Titanate) Crystals, chemical formula Pb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3-Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3, also known as the second generation piezoelectric crystal is a refined version of PMN-PT and composited of adding indium (In) to the first-generation PMN-PT. This allows the material to improve its phase transition temperature (TR-T) and coercive field significantly without sacrificing ferroelectric properties, allowing it to be used in situations where the ambient temperature is high and the power is high, such as underwater sonar for defense applications and other fields.
