A Glan Thompson Polarizer is a polarization optic consisting of two right-angle prisms with their hypotenuse cemented together to form a rectangular element of a large length-to-width ratio. The operation principle of a Glan Thompson polarizer is similar to its two cousins: Glan laser polarizer and Glan Taylor polarizers.
The prisms have the same optical axis orientation as one another, which is perpendicular to the plane of reflection. As light is split up into two orthogonal polarizations due to the birefringent character of the polarizer material, the angle of the prisms is designed so that the s polarization (i.e. the ordinary component) encounters a higher refractive index and is blocked off of the polarizer, while the virtually all of the p polarization (i.e. the extraordinary component) experience no reflection and is allowed to exit. Since the ratio of length-to-width of the rectangular polarizer is quite substantial, which means the interior angle of the prims is quite acute, this contributes to the large acceptance angle of Glan Thompson Polarizers.
Therefore, with the capabilities of coping with a wide field of view, the Glan Thomson Polarizer excels in working with diverging and converging light sources. However, the implementation of adhesive as the bonding material limited its usage in high-power applications since the cement drastically reduces the thermal endurance of Glan Thompson polarizers.
Hangzhou Shalom EO offers both Off-the-shelf and Custom Glan Thompson Polarizers. The polarizers compose two prisms cemented together and mounted in black anodized aluminum. Two substrate materials are available Alpha-BBO and Calcite, with Alpha-BBO covering the transmission spectrum of 190-3500nm, Calcite 350-2000nm. Coating options including protective coatings and broadband coatings are both accessible.
Our Glan Thompson Polarizer features high polarization purities of 20000:1 or 20000:1, wide acceptance angles, and various selections of dimensions. Standardized aperture sizes are accessible in stock, including:φ6mm, φ10mm, φ12.7mm, and φ15mm. Other sizes are available upon request. Besides, Shalom EO also offers a full portfolio of Glan Polarizers, including Glan Laser Polarizers, which could be regarded as a modification of Glan Taylor Polarizers, and are oriented for high-power lasers; Glan Taylor Polarizers, which are apt for low and medium-power application. if you are interested, you might click on the bold text to learn more.
